# What is AV over IP distributed system ?
Distributed AV over IP is a system based on network IP transmission and discrete distributed architecture.
The whole system consists of input and output nodes. The nodes are designed with embedded encoding and decoding chips.
The front-end input nodes encode non-network signals into network signals, which are transmitted to the output nodes
through the network. The output nodes decode the network signals into non-network signals such as video, audio and control.
The network has the ability to expand and realize cross-regional deployment. It is extremely simple to upgrade and expand.
However, the traditional centralized type adopts integrated circuit design, and the input and output are integrated in a chassis.
Due to the limitation of chassis specifications, it is difficult to expand and upgrade in the later stage, and cross-regional deployment
cannot be realized due to signal transmission limitations.
